The Pre-Diabetes Diet Guidelines

December 26th, 2006

Many of you must have heard the phrase pre diabetes diet and wondered what it actually means. A diabetes diet, yes… but what does a pre diabetes diet mean, and how is it useful to anyone? Let us first look into the meaning of the pre-diabetes state. You are said to be pre-diabetic when you have a higher than normal sugar content in the blood, but not high enough to be diagnosed as a diabetic.

What Does It Mean when You Are Pre-Diabetic?

A pre-diabetic person is a person who is at high risk of developing diabetes – most often type 2 diabetes. A pre-diabetic person will also be highly susceptible to heart problems, unless he or she takes immediate preventive measures. There are a few danger signals and symptoms for the pre diabetics. Check out the following list and if you have any four of these, you will need a thorough check up by a physician.

  • if you are above 45 years of age and overweight
  • if you are overweight and you are below 45 years of age
  • if you have a history of diabetes in your family
  • if you have a history of gestational diabetes in your family
  • if you suffer from high blood pressure, high triglycerides and/or low HDL cholesterol
  • if you have given birth to a large baby of a 9 pound and above

The chances are after you see the doctor that you would be diagnosed wither as a diabetic or as a pre-diabetic. In both cases you will need a change in diet as a first measure to fight the disease and bring it under control.

What Is The Pre Diabetes Diet?

Now that we learnt what the pre-diabetes is, it not too hard to guess what is the pre diabetes diet. This is actually a diet which will try to keep the pre-diabetes from developing into diabetes. It is as simple as that. There are many things you can do to prevent this from happening, and the following tips will be quite helpful:

Diabetes Diet Recipes

December 26th, 2006

From the moment one hears that he or she has got diabetes, they will be in search of the diabetes diet recipe which can help them out of their misery and nurse them back to health. However, very soon they realize that there is no such thing as the diabetes diet recipe. Yes, there will be many recipes which will be beneficial in controlling the blood sugar, however there is no such thing as standard diabetes diet recipes which can be beneficial to everyone.

What Is Myth and What Is Reality?

Diabetes is an incurable disease, it is true. Diabetes means that you stop having fun in your life, is a myth. Diabetes can be very well controlled with the help of medicines, insulin injections, and a moderate diet. You will definitely have to watch that you do not eat too many desserts, too many starchy and / or fatty foods – but then you should not do that that even if you are healthy.

Diabetes is best controlled with a vegetarian diet, it is true. Diabetes cannot be contained with a non-vegetarian diet is a myth. One can eat meat and dairy products in moderation and be as healthy as the next person, even if you have diabetes. It is not important what type of diet you take, though a vegetarian diet is indeed better for the diabetic person – a person who remains non-vegetarian can have diabetes under control as well as the vegetarian. The key is always consume foods in moderation of whatever you choose to take in.

Diabetes means you will have to be careful through the rest of your life of what you are eating, it is true. Diabetes means that you have to stick only to unpalatable foods is a myth. You can eat anything you please, even if you have diabetes, provided it is done in moderation. You can have sweets, you can have French fries, you can have your favorite dessert – anything absolutely that pleases you. What you will have to always keep in mind is that the total sugar and calorie intake should not overload the system.

Is A Diabetes Diet Recipe A Myth Too?

Actually, there are many people who claim they have a fool-proof diabetes diet recipe which can totally bring the disease under control. However, none of these recipes actually were proven beneficial in a general context or application. The doctors agree that diet is a very important tool in controlling diabetes, however there is no such wonder diet recipe which can cure diabetes.
